Metal
Zipper: mainly made of metal materials such as copper, aluminum, stainless steel, etc., with high hardness and strength. Among them, stainless steel zippers have strong corrosion resistance and wear resistance; Copper zippers have high strength, but are relatively prone to oxidation in humid environments; Aluminum zippers are relatively lightweight, but their strength is slightly lower compared to stainless steel and copper.
Resin zipper: Made mainly of polyester resin, it has a tough texture, good impact resistance, and is not easily broken during regular use.
In terms of anti-wear ability
Metal zipper: The teeth of a metal zipper are relatively hard, and under normal use, friction with clothing or other items is not likely to cause wear and deformation of the teeth. However, if frequently in contact with sharp objects or used in harsh environments, metal chain teeth may experience wear and scratches, which may affect the smoothness of the zipper after long-term use.
Resin zipper: Resin zippers have good wear resistance, and the surface of their teeth is relatively smooth. During multiple opening and closing processes, friction with clothing and other materials generally does not cause severe wear on the teeth. But if subjected to strong scratching from sharp objects or frequent friction on rough surfaces, resin chain teeth may suffer from scratches, gaps, and other damages.
In terms of corrosion resistance performance
Metal zippers: Some metal zippers, such as copper zippers, are prone to rusting and corrosion in humid environments or when exposed to chemicals, which can affect the performance and appearance of the zipper and reduce durability. Although aluminum zippers are relatively corrosion-resistant, oxidation may also occur in specific environments. However, stainless steel zippers have good corrosion resistance.
Resin zipper: The resin material itself has good corrosion resistance, is not easy to rust or be corroded, and can maintain good performance in humid environments (such as rain gear) or when in contact with weak acid and alkali chemicals. It can also maintain good durability in various environments.
In terms of tensile strength
Metal zippers: Metal zippers usually have high tensile strength and can withstand large tensile forces, especially some high-quality metal zippers, which are commonly used in clothing that requires heavy weight or tensile force, such as thick leather jackets, workwear, etc. However, if the applied tension exceeds its bearing range, the metal chain teeth may be pulled apart or deformed.
Resin zipper: Resin zippers also have excellent tensile resistance and can generally meet the needs of most clothing applications. High quality resin zippers are designed and manufactured with sufficient strength in mind, and are not easily damaged by stretching under normal use. However, compared to metal zippers, their ultimate tensile resistance may be slightly inferior.
Adapting to environmental temperature
Metal zipper: Metal has the property of thermal expansion and contraction. In low temperature environments, metal zippers may become brittle, resulting in a decrease in the flexibility of the zipper. When opening and closing, they are prone to jamming or even breakage of the chain teeth; In high temperature environments, metal zippers may experience deformation, coating detachment, and other issues.
Resin zipper: Resin zippers can adapt to a wide temperature range, maintain a certain degree of flexibility at low temperatures, and are not easily brittle or cracked; In high temperature environments, as long as it is not subjected to extreme high temperatures for a long time, there is generally no significant deformation or performance degradation.
